OLIVIA MAO – ST. LUKE’S SCHOOL: NEW CANAAN, CT
The word joy seems inadequate to describe what Olivia brings to any situation of which she is a part. You see her smiling face and you immediately know that what is staring back at you is nothing but full-hearted goodness and that goodness can’t help but rub off on those around her. Olivia genuinely cares about people and her actions show just that. It is not that she feels a moral obligation to help people nor does she feel it is her duty. It is simply in her nature to care for and about others and to be kind. When she asks you how your day is going, she really wants to know. Olivia's basic optimistic spirit leads her to make other people happy. While she can be shy, she will step forward to go the extra mile in bringing her spirit of being kind and inclusive to others. She is empathetic and sensitive and seems to have a deep understanding of the human condition. And she has had plenty of places to spread her joy. She is a pianist, artist, volunteer and camp counselor who enjoys hiking, canoeing, camping, running cross country and playing squash.
